ABSTRACT

Political risks in a post-communist setting Dealing with political risks means dealing with variables which are not easy to operationalize and measure. The processes they depict are influenced by political and economic shifts at a global level, which on the one hand have deepened the integration of countries in the global financial markets, while on the other have brought greater instability as a result of new conflicts stemming from the changing world order after the fall of communist regimes (Ferrari & Rolfini, 2008). Major risks like expropriation and political violence are substituted by cultural and institutional risks like informal norms and regulations, nepotism and corruption, and new global threats like terrorism and cyberattacks (Moffett, et al., 2006).
