ABSTRACT

104Engaging in marketing for organization development (OD) consulting is not as simple as marketing a product, which just requires strategic media placement. Marketing is a process engaged in to attract and retain new customers while keeping old ones. Some companies spend millions in advertising to interest people in their products. Today, people are less inclined to believe in or be attracted to advertised products because they feel that marketers do not value their brains and opinions (Sernovitz, 2006). Further, social media and cell phones have become major advertising tools by making it possible to talk about products any time, all of the time. Therefore, as an OD consultant, you need to reach people, interest them in your services, and give them reasons to talk about your services. This requires developing the ability to craft powerful marketing messages that represent you and your experiences (Rogers, 2001). However, the critical point is to choose an adequate carrier to separate the message.
