ABSTRACT

Climate justice – the fight for climate justice – is a meeting point, a political space for many different movements for action against the injustices of climate change. One community that comfortably arrives and actively engages in that political space are those fighting for human rights in the context of climate change. This chapter explores the broader landscapes and terrain of struggles for climate justice and intersections with a human rights and climate change agenda. It looks at the intersections between human rights and climate justice agendas, with the intent to identify continuities and discontinuities, gaps, and synergies. Human rights are indeed central to any framing of climate justice. The roots of the climate justice movement may be found the soil of a number of social justice movements. The chapter concludes with some thoughts on a path forward to enhance the conversation and possibilities of convergence to together bring about a more climate-just world.
