ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a perspective of contemporary society as pluralistic and global and ECEC settings as fields embedded in various values and value priorities. The Nordic action research project underlying this book is introduced and concepts of values, value fields and values education are discussed. A plurality of reflexive approaches to values education is analysed based on the various studies presented. There is a need to admit and understand the complex, implicit and embedded character of values in the lived life of preschools. In sum, values education ought to be regarded as an issue of plurality.
