ABSTRACT

This chapter explores how 1- to 3-year-old children express and make sense of value conflicts that occur in their play and is built on a study carried out in one preschool in Iceland. By exploring children’s perspectives, the attempt is to identify implications for values education in preschool. The method used were participant observations, video recordings, and field notes in children’s play sessions. The findings reveal three intertwined areas of controversial issues in children’s interactions and can be described in terms of conflicts of rights, conflicts of belonging, and conflicts of discipline.
