ABSTRACT

HISTORY Initiating the History “How can I help?” will usually begin the story. Often a patient will begin by saying “Do you do xxxx treatment?” The best response is: “What would you like to achieve?” Patients often present with preconceived notions of treatments they would like. Such ideas are often based upon articles they have read in the media that have been driven by the advertising or public relations budgets of companies selling expensive machines, medicines, or new treatments. Alternatively, a mirror may be proffered and the doctor might say: “What do you regard as your weak point?”
