ABSTRACT
INTRODUCTION Pain and suffering have been inherent in humanity since its earliest existence. Their alleviation and control have been one of the important advances of modern medicine. Local anesthesia has been used not only to reduce pain but also to make possible surgical treatments hitherto unimaginable.
