ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on a corpus of circular and curriculum documents collected between 1996 and 2016 concerning the education policy of "I don't forget and I struggle" in Greek-Cypriot schools. It briefly discusses some theoretical considerations concerning the affective-discursive entanglements to show how they have guided my analysis and how they are explicitly connected to the themes of time, history, and memory. The chapter provides a genealogy of the "I don't forget" policy to demonstrate the affective-discursive positions of the circular and curricular documents analysed, focusing in particular on the last twenty years – that is, from 1996 until the present. It identifies the affective-discursive patterns of the emotional archive of the nation-state, as they are emerging from these documents, and discusses what kind of emotional subjects and what kinds of repertoires "populate this canon". Finally, the chapter ends with discussing some implications in relation to investigating the entanglement of educational policies with the emotional archive of the nation-state.
