ABSTRACT

The production of hydrogen is an appropriate environmental solution. Nanotechnology could help speed up the journey to the hydrogen society. Nanotechnology's major contribution to the clean production of hydrogen lies in its application to solar cells and the catalysts used in water electrolysis. Hydrogen storage is a topical goal in the development of a hydrogen economy. Designing an optimized materials and nanomaterials hydrogen storage is a challenging task. Generally two basic requirements should be taken into account: a large number of adsorption sites per weight and volume of hydrogen storage materials; and the heat of adsorption of the hydrogen storage materials should be increased. A few available technologies permit to store directly hydrogen by modifying its physical state in gaseous or liquid form. In order to optimize the choice of the nanocomposites for a selected application, a better understanding of the role of each alloy constituent on the electronic properties of the material is crucial.
