ABSTRACT

We present an overview of light-emitting devices based on Si-

nc, including both a general theoretical frame and the whole

experimental progress attained in the field. Several materials and

two basic device structures will be presented to elucidate the

emission properties. A dedicated section illustrates the strategies

applied to extend the emission spectra either to the green-blue

portion of the visible spectrum or to the infrared one, with special

attention to the telecommunication band at 1.55 μm.
