ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses nondestructive technique of soft X-ray that includes importance of nondestructive methods, principle, X-ray source, applications, and recent research advances. The increase in consciousness of quality, demands research activities related to production of defined quality and a need for development of accurate, fast and objective quality determination of the quality characteristics. X-ray imaging is an established technique to detect strongly attenuating materials and research has shown the application to a number of inspection applications within the agricultural and food industries. The X-ray techniques are powerful tools for nondestructive internal quality evaluation. The international markets for agricultural produce are huge and growing. One of the major problems associated with use of X-rays is that high-energy electromagnetic radiations, like X-rays can ionize atoms and kill biological cells. It is therefore mandatory to provide a shield between the radiation source and people working in the vicinity.
