ABSTRACT

In this work elimination of methylene blue from wastewater by using Psidium guava leaves powder was investigated. Typical adsorption isotherm, Langmuir and Freundlich were used to signify the experimental data. The 248external mass transfer coefficient have been resolved for the procedure affected by various variables together with pH, preliminary concentration, amount of adsorbent, contact time and speed of agitation. Up to 100% dye removal is seen at lower dye concentration at 12.5 mg/L, adsorbent dose at 500 mg, pH 5 and agitation speed at 100 rpm.

Furusuwa–Smith model is used to assess the effect of external mass transfer coefficient, β, on the operating variables. The value of ß, were then related to dimensionless mass exchange numbers (Sh/Sc 0.33). The dimensionless mass transfer numbers were found to differ with preliminary concentration, C0.11 and Psidium guava leaves powder amount, M2.6. The equilibrium data fitted very well in Freundlich and Langmuir isotherm.
