ABSTRACT
Tiger reserves in India are today important tourist destination and attract a large number of visitors, thus presenting a range of financial and non- financial opportunity for contribution and also challenges for management. This chapter presents an overview of the benefits of wildlife tourism to the park and the community living around. The financial contribution is arising from gate receipts, which includes the entry fees for vehicles and visitors, is deposited to the state exchequer. This chapter reveals how a portion of the revenue generated, by Tiger Reserve in the state of Madhya Pradesh, is shared with the community living around. This might not provide basics for food and clothing but complements infrastructure development like roads, schools, shelter, and water. We also examined how tourism is contributing to conservation by securing a sustainable livelihood for the community and creating awareness that results in an appreciation of and a positive attitude toward conservation of resources.
