ABSTRACT

130The tractor is very popular among Indian farmers primarily because of affordability of high operational efficiency. The project titled “The utilization tractors in Jalgaon Jamod Taluka in Vidarbha Region” is a survey type project. The survey was conducted in 25 villages out of 53 villages in Jalgaon Jamod region. In each village, 10 farmers were personally contacted for collecting data.

From the study, it was concluded that 76% of tractor sales were on credit. The loan was extended by commercial banks, state land development banks, and regional rural banks. Most of farmers (24%) preferred credit from local cooperative banks that play a major role for providing the loan facility. Reduced cropping cycle due to irrigation facilities require deep tilling, which translates into higher demand for tractors. Most of the farmers bought the tractors as their status symbol by paying the amount in cash.
