ABSTRACT

264Binding interaction studies of 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (3-APTES) with zinc oxide (ZnO), titania (TiO2), zirconia (ZrO2), alumina (Al2O3), silica (SiO2), and iron oxide (Fe2O3) nanocrystals have been carried out by UV–visible and fluorescence spectral studies. 3-APTES acts as a host for ZnO and TiO2 nanocrystals that enhance its fluorescence due to the electron transfer, whereas ZrO2, Al2O3, SiO2, and Fe2O3 do not affect the fluorescence intensity of 3-APTES. 3-APTES gets adsorbed on the surface of all nanoparticles and the surface treatment of nanoparticles by 3-APTES, its mechanism is discussed in detail. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Fourier transform-infrared spectra (FT-IR) spectral studies are carried out to support the biding interaction between 3-APTES with nanoparticles.
