ABSTRACT

Climate change is an issue within a global context and should be treated as a risk to people’s health. Principal concerns include injuries and fatalities related to severe weather events and heat waves; infectious diseases related to changes in vector biology, water, and food contamination; allergic symptoms, respiratory and cardiovascular disease related to worsening air pollution; and nutritional shortages related to variations in food production. Secondary concerns include mental health consequences, population dislocation, and civil conflict; however, data is scarce for these issues compared to the primary concerns.
