ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines the performance analysis and evaluation of a car-to-car (C2C) visible light communication (VLC) using 2 × 2 multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO). It describes C2C VLC communication models including both single-input single-output (SISO) and MIMO, noise sources, and road surface. In C2C VLC systems, a market-weighted headlamp model, road surface Lambertian reflection model, optical MIMO model, and ambient noise model are adapted. The combination of both the high- and low-beam headlamps in vehicles provides a safe and comfortable driving conditions for drivers and other road users during day and night times and in all weather, traffic, and road conditions. For optical wireless communication channel, there are two additional light noise sources, which are the background solar radiation during the daytime, and the artificial light at night time. Link duration is defined as the time when two nodes can communicate with each other, or in the case of C2C VLC, when two cars can establish a link and maintain communication.
