ABSTRACT

Vehicles are mobile by definition, but they are also multihomed; that is, each node is connected to more than one network. Mobility can be viewed as a special case of multihomingas vehicles move, they unsubscribe from one network and subscribe to another, which is akin to an interface becoming inactive and another active. Vehicle innovation has been mostly dominated by mechanical engineers, while the telecommunication industry has yet been able to capitalize on the vast potential of these ubiquitous mobile processes. The general notion of software-defined networking is to centralize the management of network state updates by offloading the logic of a mechanism to an external off-device controller. Running such a protocol requires solving the NP-hard problem of matching constrained virtual networks on the physical network, owned by a single provider or by multiple federated providers. Click is an open-source tool that can be leveraged to build software for programmable and configurable routers.
