ABSTRACT

The environmental benefits of grain legumes in crop rotations are well established (Bues et al. 2013), but because of their relatively minor role in agriculture in comparison with cereals, breeding of legumes for stress resistance is poorly developed. Technologies for germplasm identification, genomic analysis, gene identification, and rapid breeding have greatly advanced, so it is now possible for legume breeding to catch up with cereal and oilseed breeding.
