We begin this review by emphasizing the roles of serotonin and melatonin, and their contributions, especially melatonin, to agricultural science and genetic engineering in the future. With this aim in mind, several questions regarding their developmental tendencies remain unanswered and should be reviewed. Thus, the origins and metabolism of serotonin and melatonin in plants, their potential roles in agricultural production, their perspectives in nutritional and agricultural science, and the transgenic modication of their metabolism in plants will be discussed and reviewed in this chapter.
