ABSTRACT

The life path of the factitious disorder by proxy (FDP) offender is centered on a cause and effect rationale with a seemingly disposable tool-the life of the FDP abuse victim. There is a general multidisciplinary professional consensus, based upon known abuse situations (with an FDP factor), that FDP offenders primarily target children; the children are exploited as tools utilized for acquiring secondary offender gain. Although other abuse or homicide victims have been categorized clearly with an FDP abuse factor, child victims are most prevalent. Patterned FDP child victimization parallels unique indicators of alternative victimization identified through FDP case analysis.
