ABSTRACT

The portions of plant-derived food that are neither digested nor absorbed by the body are known as dietary fibers. These can also be termed as roughage and are essential for the maintenance of the body. The other essential nutrients like carbohydrates, fats, and proteins are digested as well as absorbed by the body. However, dietary fibers pass unbroken through the stomach as well as through the small intestine and colon and finally out the body.
