ABSTRACT

Nutraceuticals are known to offer more health benefits than those offered by the normal diet. The food sector involving nutraceuticals and functional foods is the fastest growing because of the increasing healthful requirements of consumers. The constant increase is due the role of nutraceuticals to promote fitness as well as comfort (Mollet and Lacriox 2007). PricewaterhouseCoopers, a multinational professional services network, noted that the nutraceuticals market in the United States was $27 billion in 2007. The worldwide estimate in for 2013 was $100 billion. The desperate need for new products simulta­ neously requires the products to be developed and sufficient literature be available. The area of nutraceuticals and functional foods thus welcomes a huge amount of research and progress to ensure further commercialization.
