ABSTRACT

The chemical structures of the repeating oligosaccharide units of SGs from the egg jelly coat of sea urchins (Figure 35.2a, b), from the tunic of ascidians (Figure 35.2c, d), from red algae (Figure 35.2e), and the repeating units of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) and dermatan sulfates (DSs) from ascidians (Figure 35.2f) and of FucCS from sea cucumber (Figure 35.2g) are shown below. These polysaccharides are composed of l-galactopyranose, d-galactopyranose, l-iduronic acid, d-glucuronic acids, and d-N-acetylgalactosamines.
