ABSTRACT
California is legendary for its famous surfing, sunny beaches, and scenic rocky coasts. The surfing craze of the early 1960s was imported from Hawaii to California, where it became a big part of American culture for a while. Surfing is still a major part of the California lifestyle. Not just surfing, but also sailing, beachcombing, beach volleyball, and other beach and water sports make California distinctive.
