ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we discuss the CED, recognizing that it requires operational and leadership structures that support its important and far-reaching roles, namely its twin remits of managing the medical technology and advancing care. We will also look at the internal structures of a CED recognizing that they may well be dictated by circumstances outside of the control of the CED leadership. Within the CED, there are a variety of ways of organizing the staff and a variety of mix of staff that it may be beneficial to employ. We will look at all these especially in the context of the leadership of the department.
