ABSTRACT

Citrus glauca is the botanical name for the most widely occurring Australian native Citrus. Common names are many – desert lime, bush lime, limebush and wild lime – but the name desert lime is now the accepted name for this interesting Citrus species. This species of native Citrus has evolved in harsh climatic and soil conditions, resulting in some remarkable characteristics. Variations in the species have been noted with adaptation for locality. The climatic range of desert limes is extensive. Commercial plantings of grafted desert limes have been established near Roma in south-west Queensland, Gympie in south-east Queensland, Glenrowan in north-east Victoria, and southern part of South Australia and Western Australia. Grafting is the only recommended propagation method for commercial desert lime production. Budding has been tried by many who are well experienced in this technique but without success.
