ABSTRACT

CoORdination of Information on the Environment (CORINE) Land Cover (CLC) represents a unique Europe-wide consensus in land monitoring, unique even from global perspective. With the finalization of CLC2012 it should be emphasized that for those interested in the European landscape an important source of environmental information is available showing the dynamics for the period of almost 25 years. In our information society this is an asset comparable with the other strategic resources available. The greatest benefit of CLC is that because of harmonized content and compatibility in time it allows for the perception of continent-wide spatial and temporal patterns in land cover/land use (LC/LU) changes and thus it provides insight into the heterogeneous European landscape structure and related processes.
