ABSTRACT
288This chapter provides an overview of the latest food packaging evolutions and expectations of forthcoming developments involving the use of nanotechnology, with a specific focus on edible packaging. Food protection with environmental and health concerns, the concept of nanotechnology, the interest in the development of biodegradable and renewable materials for food packaging, applications of nanomaterials and nanotechnologies, tools for coating systems characterization, some of the latest examples, and other topics are pointed out.
