HISTORICAL NOTES AND EVOLUTION In the collective imagination, the uterine delivery coincides with the cesarean delivery or abdominal birth. At the beginning of the eighteenth century, fear of infections led doctors to develop techniques that would prevent or at least limit contact between the uterine incision and the peritoneal cavity. One of the solutions was the extraperitoneal cesarean delivery.
