ABSTRACT

The U.S. population is aging rapidly due to increasing life expectancies combined with declining birth rates. At present, 35 million people-one-eighth of the U.S. populationare over 64 years of age, and by 2020 this number is expected to reach 77 million. The aging process often results in physiological changes that can make older adults (those aged 65 years and older) particularly susceptible to falling (Peel et al., 2007).
