ABSTRACT

There are different ways in which one can establish the presence of lipid within an adrenal lesion. One can qualitatively compare the in-phase and corresponding opposed-phase images on a workstation using identical window settings. If the adrenal lesion demonstrates a drop in signal on the opposed-phase image, it contains intravoxel lipid and water protons [7] (Figure 21.1). Another method is to subtract the opposed-phase image from the in-phase image, and thus generate a subtraction image. Any signal present on the subtracted image indicates the presence of lipid and water protons in the same voxel [8].
