ABSTRACT

The Soummam Valley, named as, referring to the river that runs through it, occupies a wide corridor in the midst of the province of Bejaia. The river delimits two floodplains constituted by silt and gravel surface deposits, while in depth, we find a layer of gray marl shale in which sandstones and conglomerates are intercalated. This lithologic heterogeneity, ignored by the local population during the construction of their buildings, represents a major feature as it affects the stability of the slope. For this reason, we are going in this specific case study, to examine the landslide that occurred in the Sidi-Aich locality. This landslide has caused a road collapse and buildings damages in the upstream. Up to now, it still constitutes a serious danger. Certainly, we may believe that the action of water infiltrations is the unique cause of the outbreak of this slip, but in fact, two major sets have predisposed the slope to undergo this process. Passive factors: Lithology and structural arrangement of the slope, and active factors: climatic and anthropogenic. After determining the causes and mechanisms which are directly related to this slip, appropriate stabilization solutions are proposed.
