ABSTRACT

In an urban area, travellers use different modes of transport to make their trips. Public transport (PT) is a way of concentrating trips and carrying massive passenger flows, involving a range of solutions: buses, trams, subways and trains, in ascending order of capacity. Planning a network involves establishing the layout of lines, along with modes and services on each line. The stake is to adjust service performance to match user requirements, this by geographical liaison, and balancing potential costs and benefits. If planning is to be relevant for a territory’s needs, it is essential to know the passenger flows and their effects on network performance.
