ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION I have always loved movies. I grew up during the 1950s in New York City, a few blocks away from Loew’s Theater, a huge movie palace with mezzanine, balcony and gilded box seats. This is where I saw such fi lm classics as Ben Hur, Lawrence of Arabia and The Ten Commandments, as well as other, not-so classic, movies, such as It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad World and Three Coins in a Fountain. I was lucky to live during a golden era of Hollywood when the ‘moving’ pictures and movie stars were, literally, larger than life. Currently, I feel quite fortunate to be able to incorporate this same awe and love of movies that I had as a child into my ‘day job’ teaching medical students and residents and my ‘night job’ as a psychotherapist.
