ABSTRACT

This chapter, which concludes Part 2 of the book, offers a more pragmatic response to achieving equity in primary healthcare by focusing on a specific service example. To this extent, it is very different from the other chapters in this volume and offers a personal reflection on the dilemmas faced by health professionals as they struggle to deliver better services to South Asian populations. My particular concern is with how building better partnerships can improve health services for South Asian communities. I begin my account by reflecting on the reasons for improving service support for South Asian people. I then go on to describe some of the key principles and requirements in building partnerships, by presenting examples, grounded in the realities of service delivery, of successful outcomes.
