ABSTRACT

The revised Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) rewards practices for performing face-to-face formal cardiovascular (CV) risk assessment in all new patients diagnosed with hypertension. Flag up all patients with hypertension and do a CV risk assessment at the time of routine hypertension monitoring. Enter read code CV risk assessment 662K on the hypertension template. It has been suggested that the cardiovascular risk charts should be based on lifetime risk estimates. Most computer systems provide a Framingham-based risk score. QRISK2 is another predictor of cardiovascular risk. Before initiating statin therapy for primary prevention, all other modifiable risk factors should be considered and management optimised. Sleeping for more or less than seven hours a day may be an indication of an underlying risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). Statin therapy is recommended as part of the management strategy for the primary prevention of CVD for adults who have a 20% or greater 10-year risk of developing CVD.
