ABSTRACT

The Swaminarayan Tradition Sahajanand Swami (1781-1830), later known as Swaminarayan, founded the Swaminarayan tradition of Hinduism in the early 19th century. Devotees, who are largely from Gujarat, worship Swaminarayan as God and follow a Vaishnava form of devotion. There are various Swaminarayan groups with different views on the identity of the guru and the authentic line of succession. The largest is BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha, whose current leader is Pramukh Swami and which is well known for its elaborate traditional temple in Neasden, London.
