ABSTRACT

Introduction This chapter explores strategic leadership within the public health domain and as identified within the Faculty of Public Health Medicine standards document.1 Public health professionals are primarily concerned with managing the changes required to improve the health of a defined population. Managing change demands focused leadership ability, i.e. the ability to articulate a vision of the future, to bring together the appropriate team of people to turn the vision into a strategy for action and to motivate that team to accomplish the tasks necessary to achieve the required changes.
