ABSTRACT

Rather than give long lists of treatment regimens, the aim is to give a feeling for the rationale behind effective prescribing for common conditions, again taking as primary importance the patient's expectations of therapy (or not) from the doctor, and the effects on the patient day-to-day of their condition . The list is by no means exhaustive, and dosages are not included as they can vary with age, weight and presence of co-morbidities such as renal failure . Advances in thinking and new guidelines were being considered as this chapter was being written and should be consulted as guidelines change .
