ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines some of the current drivers for improving access to psychological services. It provides a working example of a consultancy model within a stepped care pathway to improve access to psychological services. The chapter suggests that reading to facilitate new ways of thinking about service design and improved access to interventions. It highlights some of the learning points in designing and implementing the pathway; that is, what to think about in order to get a service delivered. The chapter shows that suggestions for further learning and promote thinking about other ways to improve access to psychological interventions in future. A scoping exercise was carried out to ascertain priorities for each health board and the stakeholders within each board. In accordance with British Psychological Society and UK Department of Health guidelines a stepped care model of service provision was designed. There are specified, limited numbers of direct contact clinics available for post-assessment direct psychological work.
