ABSTRACT

A1 C Primary cholelithiasis is now the most common aetiology of gallbladder disease in the paediatric population. TPN use is commonly reported in association with cholelithiasis and contributes to the incidence of primary cholelithiasis. Haemolytic cholelithiasis secondary to disorders such as sickle-cell disease, spherocytosis, thalassaemia, and so forth. is the second most common cause of gallstones. Congenital abnormalities of the biliary tract are rarely associated with gallbladder disease. Ileal resection does contribute to the formation of pigment stones, but is not by itself the most common cause of gallbladder disease.
