ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines the research using a Delphi Survey, where an expert panel of facilitators were selected throughout the UK in health and social care. It explores the facilitation of interprofessional learning (IPL) and the development of skills and teaching methods needed for the preparation of facilitators undertaking work-based learning. The particular challenge was to try and find out if there are additional skills and knowledge needed for facilitation of IPL in the workplace. In the data there were many recommendations for practice that could be undertaken by facilitators as preparation for IPL. Self awareness is vital in presenting a positive attitude, both verbally and non-verbally, and could be argued as an additional skill as an IPL facilitator. Facilitation of IPL in the workplace, it was assumed, would require greater levels of skill to address issues of power, stereotypes, leadership and feelings of being de-valued in a multiprofessional setting.
