ABSTRACT

The majority of singleton fetuses will adopt a vertex presentation, occiput anterior (OA) position towards term, however, it is vital that the midwife is able to both recognise and act appropriately when deviations from this norm occur. This chapter sets out to ensure a good understanding of both malpositions and malpresentations and identify the role of the midwife in supporting women and their families while dealing with challenging or emergency situations, referring appropriately and as needed, to ensure the safety of both mother and newborn.
