ABSTRACT
Th e nature of recent military engagements, improved recognition of the mental health needs of veterans, and the impact of service-related psychiatric illness on criminal behavior have created new opportunities for forensic psychiatrists. Policies have been developed within state courts and legislatures, as well as the Department of Veterans Aff airs that address the needs of justice-involved veterans.
