ABSTRACT

Much like a physician rounds with a patient to learn, understand, and ascertain progress toward the treatment plan and the patient’s diagnosis (DX) (learning what’s working and what needs to be adjusted based on that particular patient’s response and progress), leaders must regularly round with their middle managers and front-line units to ensure staff understand their goals and are tracking and managing their Lean daily management system (LDM) boards (coaching and developing staff to keep up with their symptoms, DX, and treatment plans on key LDM board goals). Additionally, leaders need to be looking for ideas/actions that staff may be struggling with and escalating them to the senior leadership level for prioritization, resourcing, and support.
