ABSTRACT

Rodent regulatory management is more perplexing than that of other animals because of the legal standing seen in rodents. This is confounded by the fact that more than 90% of animals used in biomedical research in the United States are rodents. The US approach to the regulatory management of biomedical research animals is primarily self-monitoring, but inspection reports are available from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) for “covered” species used in biomedical research.
