ABSTRACT

Patients with more complex coronary artery lesions and more extensive coronary artery disease can therefore benefit the most from the potential advantages of bioresorbable scaffolds (BRSs). This chapter discusses data on BRSs use in patients with multivessel disease (MVD) and provides tips and tricks on how to use BRSs in these patients. When using BRSs in the treatment of coronary artery lesions, especially in patients with diffusely diseased coronary arteries and MVD, there are several considerations the treating physician might have to bear in mind. Despite the current technical limitations of BRSs, implantation in relative simple coronary artery lesions has been proven to be feasible and safe and to have comparable clinical results at 2-year follow-up with drug-eluting stents (DESs). Before using BRSs in MVD patients, an appropriate treatment strategy should be planned; this could either be a complete BRS strategy or a hybrid approach combining BRSs with metallic stents.
