ABSTRACT
This chapter provides a description of the UK private and charitable sectors in forensic psychiatry, collectively known as the independent sector. It describes the relationship between services in the National Health Service (NHS) and the independent sector. It does not cover other types of private work in forensic psychiatry, for example, expert witness work.
