ABSTRACT
Pre-Accident Investigations was one of the early, practical guides for understanding the new view approach to safety management. In many ways, the traditional view of safety was beginning to change, and the new change is not the type of change that allows for an easy return to the “old way” of doing safety business. The journey to “safety differently” is a trip that begins with a solid understanding of human systems and technological work interfaces. The safety books that we have read and used throughout our careers have been valuable guides and tools for the safety profession with the knowledge that we had at the time. Safety books, and the safety thinkers that have written these books have had a tremendous positive influence over safety programs around the world. Most safety books seem to reinforce a traditional, antiquated view of workplace safety.
